Why did you pick up this little booklet and scan the QR code? Perhaps you are looking for answers. The message in this booklet really is good news. But, it is only good news for some people.
Who Is Next?
Even though we may have never met, there is one thing I know you know. Everybody living today will die. Death is a disease that no man can cure and everybody has it. The frighting thing about death, is no one knows when they will die.
Each morning thousands of people start their day like normal, they leave home for work or to run an errand or take a bike ride or begin a planned vacation, and yet, never return home. Not one of these people planned to die that day.
Truth No One Wants To Hear
We all know someone who has died. Tragic for sure, but you have to ask yourself, "will I be next?" This should lead you to another question, why? Why do people die? Why do I have to die?
The answer really is quite short, it has to do with sin. The Bible say "the wages of sin is death." A wage is something you earn. Like having a job, you work and are owed payment. All people are owed death because they earned it. A sinners wage is death. People die because they are sinners. Not just physical death, rather eternal death
But wait a minute! You may be thinking, I have done some wrong things, but I'm a good person! However, that is the problem. God says, "there is none righteous, not even one." He also says, "there is none who does good." This includes you, me and every person on the planet.
Take The Test
If you can be completely honest for a moment, here is a quick self-assessment test. Let's see how good of a person you are.
Be candid!
How many times have you lied?
Have you stolen something … ever?
When was the last time you lusted after another person?
What about using God or Jesus' name as a cussword?
Have you gossiped or slandered another person?
Have you done any of these, even once?
This test is meant to see if you have kept God's moral Law, as listed in the Ten Commandments. God expects you to keep all His moral Law everyday, all the time for your entire life. This is what a holy God requires from His people.
So, how did you do on the test? Are you a liar, a thief, a fornicator, a blasphemer and a slander? All of these are sin, and one sin one time is enough to put you in hell forever! Thinking you are a good person when you are not is a sin. This is what earns you death and after death is judgment.
Keep Going!
I know this is hard to read and should be frightening! But, this is first thing you have to understand - you are not a good person. Deep inside, every person knows they sin. This is your conscience speaking. The second thing you must realize, there is nothing you can do the fix yourself. Perhaps you have tried. Many have, yet failed.
Sin is a trap that will hold you until death comes for you. It could be today or tomorrow and you know you cannot stop it. Death is an appointment on your life's calendar that you cannot cancel or postpone. A dreadful day that should cause you alarm and fear.
The Good News
The little booklet in your hands that brought you here, is the cure for death. You are holding life and forgiveness. It will tell you the story about Jesus Christ. It will explain, what you can't fix Jesus can. As you read you will learn you must be "born again."
What this means, Jesus is able take away your sin and give you a new life. How? Because He lived sinless. He did what you cannot do. Jesus lived out God's moral Law perfectly. Yet, He died a sinners death on the cross two thousand years ago. He did not have to die, He never earned death. Yet He did so willingly and voluntarily.
But, there is more! Three days later in victory He rose from the dead to life. Because Jesus lives, He now offers sinful people the cure for their sin and death. "The gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." He died and rose to life so others may live. People like you and me, who will confess their sins and repent and turn to Jesus.
Only Jesus
Life is the gift and this gift comes with a promise, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Now that is good news, there is a cure for death! But, only for those who will believe.
Jesus is the only one who can fix you. Your good is not good enough. But Jesus will give you His good, when you trust by faith in Him. Confessing Jesus is to believe Him.
Start Here
It begins with one turn. A desire to turn from your sin and believe? If this is you, then cry out to God for help. Tell Him, talk to Him about your sin. Tell Him you desire to leave sin behind and you want to believe. God promises that "whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" God is near and He hears honest pleas for help.
My Prayer
I am praying for you. I pray as you read this booklet, that will have an overwhelming sense of your sin. I pray you will follow Jesus' command to "repent" and desire to turn from your sin. And, you will understand and believe that in Jesus you can have a new life, to be born again.
Don't wait! Ask God to save you. Remember, He promises, He will.
